What the U.S. (America) has taught me over the 5 months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

What the US has taught me over the last few months.
1. Humans with low scientific literacy are a liability to our societies, companies, organizations, our families and even a danger to themselves.

2. Leadership at any level must be connected to character, competence and compassion- in effect they must be Resourceful Humans rather than Human Resources. Not heeding this will mean vulnerability to dangers and bad decisions that could have been prevented.

3. Media (information sources) not bound to ethics, competence, discipline and driven by the profit motive are a danger to us all.

“It is hard to stare directly at the biggest problems of our age. Pandemics, climate change, the sixth extinction of wildlife, food and water shortages—their scope is planetary, and their stakes are overwhelming. We have no choice, though, but to grapple with them. It is now abundantly clear what happens when global disasters collide with historical negligence.” (Yong, E, 2020) https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/09/coronavirus-american-failure/614191/

The road ahead is complicated, convoluted and the only way through is through clear heads and co-operation. We have draw the very best of what we know, ask good questions, seek answers to them and navigate forward with deep care, a clear ethical compass and yes hope. But hope without any of the other things in play will not be enough. We need to be Resourceful Humans not Human Resources if we are to truly learn from the massive disaster caused by the pandemic in the U.S. and globally.
